2K Hires Apex Legends Producer to Boost Troubled Action Game Project Ethos

2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently developing the upcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Change Comes After Mixed Response

The new appointee steps into the leadership position at the development studio following the exit of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming initial reveal last autumn.

On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure updated team members about this decision through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the need for a more defined vision.

The president stated that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a revised approach, aiming to better meet player expectations.

Trend of Key Acquisitions

The news mirrors a similar action taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to assist with the BioShock development group.

Below is the complete message from the president's announcement:

Team—

I understand you all just completed your town hall - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the positive developments. Last time I shared you all a update, I stated the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative developers we have had the chance to work with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to endure.”

With your dedication and adaptability, particularly over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.

The player input from last autumn’s Project ETHOS demo was enlightening. It confirmed the promise of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the requirement for a more distinct brand.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You embraced the criticism to heart and reimagined Project ETHOS with a refreshed vision - one that’s poised to deliver on its potential to our players.

Our confidence in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To boost the incredible development you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce Ben Brinkman as the incoming Lead of 31st Union. Following several months of talks, Ben officially joins us on the specified date.

His guidance and background in the competitive gaming field is extensive, having spent the recent years developing and leading some of the most recognizable titles in the industry, for example the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, the battle royale hit.

Let’s together in greeting Ben in the coming days. We are all looking forward to persist observing the development of the game in the months to come.

David

Background of the New Leader

The appointee presently holds the role of executive producer and production lead at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. He earlier worked at major gaming companies in diverse development positions on the iconic franchise games, and, earlier in his career, had periods at other industry leaders.

Title Details and Vision

Project Ethos was announced in last year together with a community playtest. At the time, the developers described the title as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an innovative advancement on the style."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in live gameplay to match your preferred approach," the official summary explains. "Challenge the opponents with new abilities, risks, and tests that evolve every match. Will you safely extract with your valuable rewards? Or go big, put it on the line, and pray your team can secure victory? The decision is in your hands."

Project Ethos lacks an official release date or platforms, but players can anticipate further news as creation progresses.
